Stefanos Foundation brings hope to a troubled nation, working for peace and justice
Discover moreNigeria is a country where a religious group can issue an ultimatum of violence and confidently execute their threats unchallenged.

The Nigerian Muslim Council (NMC) issued an ultimatum on 6 April 2011 for all non-Muslims resident in the North to leave or face the consequences. The NMC dismissed the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan and a signed statement by their President General, Mohammed Isa Bilbis and the National Secretary, Olusegun Hammed Adelabu declares “Political party offices, their vehicles, regional offices of the Central Bank of Nigeria and its main headquarters are to be bombed … All electoral materials must be destroyed,”
Bombing began in Kaduna. Subsequently, after the election on 16 April, most northern states recorded the killing of Christians, looting and burning of their properties and worship centres. Over 200 are reported murdered and about 40,000 displaced.
This violence has its roots in history. Ahmadu Bello’s 1960 declaration promised violence and Sir Henry Willink was in no doubt as to the Islamist intentions of the North.
At the first sign of stability in Nigeria’s democracy, 12 Northern States called for Shari’a in 2001, allowing Muslims to engage the region into systematic violence with impunity, and in total contravention of section 10 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Islamists believe that submission to a secular government is a denial of the foundation of the pillars of Islam, therefore they are committed to the overthrow of democracy.
After the Summit of Islam in Africa Organisation (IAO) held in Abuja Nigeria, 1989, African Muslims resolved:
· To ensure the appointment of only Muslims into strategic National and International posts
of member nations.
· To eradicate in all its forms and ramifications all non-Muslim religions in member nations including Christianity, Ahmadiyya and other tribal modes of worship unacceptable to Muslims.
· To ensure that only Muslims are elected to all political posts of member nations
· To ensure the ultimate replacement of all western forms of legal and judicial systems with the Shari’a in all member nations before the next Islam in Africa Summit.
Islamists view Plateau State as an infidel state just like America. They are bent on defining the territory as Islam’s DarAl’Harb (House of War) and make the State ungovernable. The intention is to bring in an Islamist military leader to oinmplement their expansionist agenda and make life intolerable for the minority.
As predicted by Sir Henry Willink, the northern Islamic agenda in Nigeria needs the support of the minority Middle Belt tribes to succeed. However, these minority tribal groups have in the intervening years acquired Christian identity. Hence the Hausa and Fulani Muslim Elders Forum of Jos, in their claim of ownership over Jos, stated on 30 December 2010 “Muslims in the State shall ensure that a few months before the general elections, Jihad will be declared in the State which cannot be controlled even by security agencies, with great slaughter and massacre, which the Federal Government will have no option than to declare a State of Emergency in Plateau.”
The recent Presidential Election has clearly indicated the Islamic intention of the core Northern people. The area won by the CPC Muslim candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari are clearly those states that inaugurated Shari’a (Islamic Law) in 2001. The PDP party scored 22,495,187 votes compared to a total of 15,714,791 votes across all other parties. But CPC weill not accept this defeat.
Stefanos has compiled detailed lists of churches destroyed in the various northern states under systematic Islamist aggression. In Kano State, 15,000 people were taking refuge in police barracks, around 50 were murdered and at the time of compilation 22 churches had been torched in Nasarawa and
Kumbotso alone.
Christians in the North are being given ultimatums to leave, or face the consequences.
Christians in the South appear to be ignoring the plight of those in the North, on the basis that these are skirmishes that will blow over. This is not the case. This is systematic and premeditated Islamist aggression rooted in history which refuses to accept democracy. Nigeria a failed state.
We call on the Nigerian government to take control, to report casualties properly, and to demonstrate how they will protect their people and bring killers to justice.
We urge the International community to set up independent investigations into the ongoing conflict while evidences is fresh and perpetrators can be apprehended, using satellite coverage and all means necessary. Observing is not enough.
We ask that the International Criminal Court open additional Africa field offices in anticipation of pre-empting similar crises in the light of the murderous resolutions of Islam in Africa Organisation (IAO) given the many other African nations due for elections this year.
Stefanos helps victims of violence as much as funds allow, so check us out and ask whether you might feel able to join us in bringing aid to those caught up in violence in many of Nigeria's troubled Northern states.
