Stefanos Foundation brings hope to a troubled nation, working for peace and justice
Discover moreOn 31 January a Fulani man led a group of soldiers into Maza community. They pulled three young men from their homes and shot them in the presence of the community.
This incident marks a further development in the breakdown of law and order in Nigeria. The credibility of some military units led by Muslim soldiers is seriously in question.
The attack comes in the wake of other serious incidents around Jos, with the university as a new target. At Faringada, Jos North, two university students were stabbed and houses and shops torched as the military looked on. The stabbing led to further violence and two churches are reported destroyed, Emmnauel Baptist Church in Ungwan Rimi and ECWA Church, Rusau. On 29 January, fourteen university students were macheted, resulting in 6 deaths. On 30 January two students were shot and others wounded as they sought to help their friends.
These sustained attacks are inevitably provoking retaliation, and we are saddened but not surprised to learn of attacks on muslim families and mosques also. We are praying for an end to teh violence, that law-abiding muslims and Christians may live in peace together.
We are saddened that the credibility of not only the Military but the Government itself is being sorely tested as violence spirals out of control under their leadership. How do they intend to bring it to an end? Why do we see so little determination? The people of Nigeria are sick and tired of hearing empty promises that 'the perpetrators will be brought to justice' . So many words and promises, so few results.
Is this incompetence or conspiracy?
Stefanos helps victims of violence as much as funds allow, so check us out and ask whether you might feel able to join us in bringing aid to those caught up in violence in many of Nigeria's troubled Northern states.
